As below, the conversion is underway from G.workshop to 15mm alternative. I don't like to turn my back on the 28mm created so far, but I just can't feel the Eldar, and having seen the huge momma model recently released, I ask myself, "what is the point?" If I maintained my direction with Eldar, I would need yet another new rule book, £25.00 please, some more additions to my lines, at least £20.00 per set please, and a brain scan to see what part of my financial reckoning had come loose!
To switch to another army of interest, well I would need a constant gold supply just to get it started. I get the pricing reflects the points on the battlefield, yes we could all go buy brutish models if they where cheaper and forgo the grunts, but come on, is it really worth £20.0 + for simple and poorly cast plastics? For example purposes, I take a model Lancaster I have on the go. Different ballgame true, but it cost less than £30.00, has 20 times more parts per cast frame then the above mentioned, is actually cast a lot better, and gives me as a modeller more value per pound spent.
So, 15mm.....Smaller, less detailed, harder to paint. But,,,,,, More cost effective, hence less emphasis on waiting for each pay day for the next addition, meaning easier battle setups and adjustments in weeks not months, and thus more time spent on what matters, the GAME!!!!

Khurasan Federal Marines
As in my previous post, I discussed moving to 15mm Sci-fi gaming and modelling. Before I wanted to try Warhammer 40,000 last year I had bought a selection of minis from Khurasan. Notably the Federal Command Team (FEDERAL SET 4), Rifleman set (FEDERAL SET 1) and the heavy weapons set (FEDERAL SET 3).
I must apologise for my poor photography skills. I only have a phone camera to take shots as my last camera went missing after a break in :-(
At first I was perturbed by them as I could not seem to get a colour scheme right and after a while it miraculously came together. Which will be a problem when I come to replicate it!
I was inspired by the following blog for the colours but I am probably doing his minis an injustice by saying they are remotely inspired:
Fawcett Avenue Conscripts.
Overly, I am impressed with the miniatures range from Khurasan and am definitely a bit in love with his federal range. To be honest there is so much I want to buy from him that I need a mortgage to do it.
For now my first command squad of the Federal Army of the Orbis Union.
I painted them with Vallejo Ultramarines Blue, mixed Stone Grey and a little black to give it more of a dark grey for the guns and other devices. I finished the visors with a contrasting finish, Orange. Just to base them now, need to find a good supplier for cheap, quality bases!

2013 so far!
Well 2013 has been hectic so far. Have not done any modelling since January, so hence no posts! The reason for this is because of my new born son born at the end of January and that hit me pretty hard but definitely worth every minute!
I also have lots of coursework to do for my apprenticeship and also had to squeeze in a house move, so it has been all go here but unfortunately not for the modelling.
Due to the changes in lifestyle and having a discussion with Darbs, we are keen to leave Warhammer and Games Workshop behind. The prices and the fact that after just buying the Eldar book, Darbs is faced with buying another one!
A large part of the reason for my defection is the investment of time. I have less time now so need to get things painted and up and running fast and 28mm scale is rather tedious. I also have fell out of love with the GW universe, it just does not do it for me anymore so therefore we have decided to move on to 15mm.
We have been scouring the 15mm ranges and it all seems to fit the bill. A little small for my fat fingers but I will overcome this little problem soon enough!

Subspace Network
The Subspace Network is a transportation device that allows near instantaneous travel between two points.
The node is spherical in shape with symbols and iconography on the outside. When the numbers are punched in for the desired co-ordinates for travel, the symbols rotate, glow and move into a horizontal position after each press until the desired sequence is complete (i.e. the horizontal sequence will match the co-ordinates that have been punched in). When the co-ordinates match to another node, a corridor between the two nodes is established and the sphere splits in two vertically allowing any form of matter or transmission to pass through.
Principles of the technology.
The SubSpace Network works in the same manner as a computer network more specifically like a network router. Each point of entrance/exit is called a node and each node communicates with each other even when not in use. Each node has a co-ordinate depending on it's location in the universe this co-ordinate is used to put into the targeting computer which tells the entrance node where to look.
Each node communicates to nearby nodes to calibrate for planetary movements, black holes and anomolies. It builds up a database that includes nodes that have stopped communicating, this helps the entrance node find the quickest way to the exit node. When matter (scientists call this a packet) enters the node for transport it reduces the mass of the matter, places the matter inside a bubble and fires the matter close to the speed of light, along the established corridor to the next node. The next node does not have to be the exit node. If it is not the exit node refers the transporting matter to the next node until it reaches the exit node. If any nodes are interrupted or fail whilst the matter is being sent, reports have been established that the nearest node detects the failure and attracts the corridor to itself as a fail-safe. Each node can establish many connections, so whilst transmitting a new Packet it can also be relaying thousands of existing Packets at the same time and also queue up exit and entrance packets (no more then 100 entrance packets and there is no reported limit for exit packets).
Data transmissions do not need to open the sphere for transport by appending a specific tag to the co-ordinates. The node transmits data/stimulated radiation through a much smaller corridor then what is used for matter packets, close to the speed of light. This allows a higher bandwidth and can establish billions of connections per second.

History.
The humans discovered their local node on the silver moon, the moon is the satellite that revolves around the ring of Orbis. During the Space Race between the Blackstone Corporation, United Federation of Aquatania (UFA), the local node was discovered after a stand-off by chief Research Scientist of the Blackstone Corporation, Minerva Blackstone. Secret documents that were stolen from Blackstone revealed that the reason for their clamour to space was because they were aware of the node and its purpose. The UFA was just reactionary, trying to be the first to reach the Silver Moon. The authenticity of the leaked document, however, cannot be verified. Whilst the standoff lingered on and the information filtered down of the discoveries on the Silver Moon, the other nations in including the UFA but excluding the Blackstone Corporation who would not come to the negotiation table, reached consensus that co-operation was needed to resolve the stand-off above them. The 13 nations around the table reached an agreement and formed the Orbis Accord. The reason for this was so that another war would not commence between the nations, who may feel now that one nation had too far an advantage over the others and that all future research on the Silver Moon will be co-operative.
The Blackstone Corporation were forced to back down by unilateral action that included embargos, sanctions and an amassing of military forces off the coasts of Blackstone territory. Eventually, Blackstone were forced to deal with the Orbis Accord by acceding to it and becoming a part of it.
A task force of research and military personnel were sent to the Silver Moon to reveal the secrets that permeate every surface of the Silver Moon.
5 years later after careful research, the node was activated and the first transport through was initiated to an uninhabited planet at the other side of the galaxy.
Another treaty was delivered by all nations forming the Orbis Union which bound the nations into a federation, Blackstone excluded but they have negotiated a separate agreement renting use of the node, whom maintain the node and is now run as a starport/military installation.
Many theories as to the origins of the network vary. The leading theory is that a race built the network but have left the galaxy for an unknown reason that historians and scientists are trying to piece together. It may also lead to an understanding of the origins of Orbis as it is believed to be constructed by the same race that built the node and the same understandings of the node have revealed a number of secrets that reside in monuments and temples that previously were thought to be religious/cultural constructs from ancient human civilizations.
